Hello EA Devs,
I am reaching out to you regarding a persistent issue I have encountered since the release of the mid-season update on June 20, 2023.
I've been dealing with a frustrating issue – my game keeps crashing with no error messages during intense team fights or while I'm running around.
The game is crashing exactly at 15-minute mark, not 14 minutes, but precisely at 15 minutes.
Where it's happening ? ( It's happening in lobby, firing range, in-game and in ranked games ).
I tried re-downloading the game on both EA and Steam platforms, hoping that would get rid of any problems caused by messed-up files. No luck, though – the problem's still there, and the game keeps crashing. Then, I thought maybe updating/re-installing my Nvidia driver could help solve any compatibility issues. Unfortunately, the issue remains,
We would appreciate your help regarding this issue.
After2 Months of Investigating this:
The crashes aren't because of our computers; they seem to be tied to EA servers after their update on June 20, 2023. The server communication isn't smooth, and it feels like our connection might be getting blocked / rejected after a while of connecting to EA servers. (occurring consistently after 10-15 minutes each time)
Temporary solutions that resolved this issue include using:
VPN, Mobile Data (4G\5G) or a different internet connection
But so far most of my tests were done on VPN, so here is what i can say so far:
After the mid-season update was launched:
If a user was using a VPN both before and after the mid-season update, and they began encountering crashes without error messages while using the VPN, turning off the VPN should fix the crash problem.
On the other hand, if a user started experiencing crashes after the mid-season update and they weren't using a VPN at all, Using a VPN that supports WireGuard or IKEv2 protocols should resolve the crashing issue for them.
This indicates that the issue is linked to recent modifications made to EA servers on June 20, 2023.
Here are the troubleshooting steps I have taken to address the issue, which unfortunately have not resolved the issue:
- I reset all my Nvidia control panel settings back to default.
- I re-installed the game on both EA and Steam.
- I verified the game files on both Steam and EA.
- I installed the Nvidia Studio Driver.
- I installed the Nvidia Game Ready driver.
- I installed an older driver version of Nvidia Game Ready.
- I turned off all overlays including Nvidia, Discord, Steam, and EA.
- I downgraded to an older Windows 11 Pro OS build (Version).
- I turned off DX12 and reverted back to DX11.
- I lowered my RAM speed from 4000 to 2400, 3200, 3600 and back to 4000Mhz.
- I checked my GPU & CPU Temps while gaming, with a max temperature of 55.
- I did a bios CMOS reset - to reset all the motherboard settings back to default.
- I tried unplugging / plugging back all my USBs in 2.0 - 3.0 (Gen 1) ports and 3.2 (Gen 2) ports ( Mouse, Keyboard, Headset ).
- I performed a clean Windows reinstallation (format) - using windows 10 first then windows 11 ( Home, Pro, Enterprise ).
- I ran CHKDSK to check and repair hard drive errors.
- I ran sfc /scannow command toscan all protected system files, and replace corrupted files with a cached copy that is located in a compressed folder.
- I tracked down all the errors displaying on windows Event Viewer after apex legends crashes and resolved all of them, but the issue remains.
- I capped my FPS to 140, 165, 185, 240, and No Cap ( Using Nvidia ).
- I capped my FPS to 140, 165, 185, 240, and No Cap ( Using Launch options ).
- I setr5apex.exe and r5apex_dx12.exe as administrator and ran the game, the game still crashed.
- I tried playing on my friend's account to see if it's an account issue, the game still crashed.
- I changed windows Power Plan from Balanced to High Performance and then to Ultimate Performance.
- I changed my in-game qualities from max to low and disabled all other settings.
- I followed all troubleshooting steps provided by the EA Team via Live Chat.
- I deleted the Respawn folder located in the saved game to reset all settings back to default.
- I also used those Launch Options (-novid -nojoy -dev +fps_max 278 -eac_launcher_settings SettingsDX12.json).

The fact that it began after the mid-season 17 update strongly indicates that EA's servers changes on that day caused this problem for us.
Temporary Solution:
For those who are currently unable to play, there is a temporary solution that you can try using Windscribe VPN for Windows. Follow these setup steps:
- Download Windscribe VPN For Windows
- Sign up for an account.
- Create your account and verify it by clicking on the email sent to the registered email address.
- Upon verification, your monthly bandwidth will be extended from 2GB to 10GB.
- Log in to your Windscribe VPN account.
- Choose a server that works best for you; for example, France/Seine or UK Servers works best for me.
- Select either IKEv2 or WireGuard Protocol (Important).
how to select either the IKEv2 or WireGuard protocol on the VPN?
After completing the setup steps for Windscribe VPN as mentioned earlier:
- Before starting the game, ensure that you have selected either the IKEV2 or WireGuard Protocol in the Windscribe VPN application.
- Launch Apex Legends, Enjoy :D
Surprisingly, using a VPN seems to fix the crashes. While the exact reason is unclear, this serves as a temporary solution until Apex Legends resolves the underlying issue causing the crashes.
